Soap crafting, also known as "melt & pour soap making" is an economical and fun hobby that is attracting the attention of people of all ages. It's a wonderful creative outlet, and a great way to make your friends & family hand crafted items that they can actually use! It's also the only type of soap you can make and is ready to gift as soon as it comes out of the mold!

In this hands-on class, you'll learn 4 popular techniques. We'll start with a high quality, pre-made vegetable glycerin soap base that you will melt, mix, add to, color and scent with your choice of essential oils or fragrance oils. We'll discuss all the interesting things you can put into your soap (like toys, exfoliants, herbs, oils, etc.) as well as what you can put your soap into (molding options like decorative cavity molds, loaf molds and recycled containers). Finally, you'll see how to package your works of art to impress.

Techniques This Class Will Cover:

Aquarium Bar: embedding toys into the soap (a favorite for "kids" of all ages)
2-Layer Bar: using multiple pours of different colored soap for visual effect
Confetti Soap: (aka mosaic soap) using pre-made chunks of soap within the new soap
Botanical Bar: using additives like herbs to change the texture and feel of the soap

Making basic melt & pour soap is not complicated and most could do it without an instructor. That's why in this class we focus on the techniques, which is usually where people run into problems. I'll start by demonstrating each of the four types of soap listed above and then set you loose with a partner to try your hand at those that interest you most.

Students will be given the choice to work individually or in pairs. This class was designed with total beginners in mind, but it is also taken by those who have tried making basic melt & pour before and had some problems or are ready to learn some of the more tricky techniques that really make your soap personalized and unique.

You will be amazed at what you can accomplish with a little instruction and
a few hours of practice - go from beginner to advanced in one afternoon!

All students will take home helpful handouts with instructions, tips, and recipe ideas as well as 5 impressive bars of soap. You will also package all your soap so it's completely ready to use or give away. This class uses only non-detergent soap base and no animal ingredients.
