Join Diane as you journey into the world of three dimensional mixed media art or assemblage! We will start by prepping a cigar box (provided) by sanding and gesso-ing inside and out. Next we will cover it with vintage papers to create an interesting background. Next comes the selection of the focal point – vintage images and postcards will be used to establish the mood of your piece. Once the “flat” elements are arranged it is time to go crazy with Diane’s impressive collection of found objects like rusty hardware, piano parts, watch parts, jewelry, spools, scrabble letters and more! Final touches include adding color or stain to unify the piece. You will leave at the end of the day with a cool cigar box assemblage piece comparable to the work of Joseph Cornell or Dale Copeland. The design of the cigar box allows for several configurations – a wall mounted piece – or something that will lay flat. The materials fee (paid to the teacher in cash on the day of class) covers everything you need, but feel free to bring your own favorite photos (copies) or ephemera to be incorporated into your assemblage. Please bring a brown bag lunch. ABOUT THE TEACHER: |
