This brand-spanking new Good Manufacturing Practices class by author, teacher & past HSMG president Marie Gale will cover the basics of what good manufacturing practices are and why they are so important. Don't think that just because your business is small, you don't need GMP. Actually, they may even be MORE important when it's just one person who is both chief cook and bottle washer.

The concepts of GMP aren't hard and it's not that complicated to get all the pieces in place. However, it does take informed foresight and organization, as well as the ability to adjust down the requirements that are generally intended for large companies and get them to work for a one-man-show.

This class will cover:

  • The reasons behind GMP & why you need them
  • Key points you need to know
  • An overview of the laws and regulations
  • Master Formulas
  • Batch Records
  • Specification Sheets
  • Lot numbers
  • Standard Operating Procedures
  • How to write your documentation
  • Organizational systems

Students should bring to class a recipe they are familiar with to use in starting up their GMP. Part of what the class will cover is actually starting your GMP, using the forms & worksheets provided in class!

Students will go home with handouts to help them put their new procedures in place when they get home & all the know-how to set up GMP in their own home business in a practical & helpful way.

Requirement: All attendees must have a copy of Marie's book (Good Manufacturing Practices for Soap & Cosmetic Handcrafters) with them at the class. If you already have one, please bring it with you. Those who don't have a copy with them will need to purchase one at The Nova Studio ($24.95 + $2.18 tax - $27.13 total).

After the class, Marie is happy to sign copies of her book!
