This informative 3-day boot camp will cover everything about Mineral Makeup, from creating a powdered custom foundation to “from scratch” lipsticks, to choosing colors, methods of applying mineral cosmetics, and even the basics of running a mineral makeup business.
Karrie’s mineral philosophy is that basic, natural products can be used to create truly stunning makeup, therefore no synthetic products will be used in the class (Karrie is happy however, to answer questions regarding these ingredients). Classes will involve demonstrations, along with plenty of hands-on formulating!
This unique 3-Day Intensive Covers:
Day 1: Friday, March 5, 2010
First off, it's all about Foundations! True skin toned foundations, warms, cools, neutrals, olives, and women of color - including undertones.
We’ll discuss the various vehicles by which mineral makeup can be created & applied. Loose powder, pressed, water based, cream based, tinted moisturizer, gel based, oil/silicone based & even airbrush! We’ll then use a few of these and practice application techniques.
After lunch we’ll continue to build on your knowledge of foundations by covering concealers (no pun intended!), including corrective colors, as you learn where to use them and how they are best applied.
Day 2: Saturday, March 6, 2010
Next, we'll delve into colored cosmetics, such as blush, bronzer, and eye shadows.
The morning sessions will cover blush & bronzers, the different bases, and choices of both sheen and texture for creating everything from highly pigmented matte colors, to super sparkly, sheer products. How to use these colors, and why, will also be discussed.
After lunch we'll dive into the wonderful world of eye shadows! We’ll apply the sheen & texture knowledge to create eye shadows that appeal to different tastes and needs. We’ll also discuss shades, and how to accentuate eye color, as well as wearability, and blending.
Day 3: Sunday, March 7, 2010
Last but certainly not least we'll cover natural lipsticks. You’ll learn the basic of blending waxes and oils into a creamy, emollient base, choosing pigments & micas for color, and learning how you can use all these ingredients together to create an awesome custom color lipstick. After lunch we’ll conclude the day with general information regarding starting and running a mineral makeup business, startup costs, guides to FDA regulations, sanitation & safe handling measures. And lastly, a question and answer period, where any final questions will be addressed.
An $85 materials fee, paid directly to the teacher on the first day of class, will cover all necessary supplies. You will leave the class with enough customized product for a full face makeover: one foundation, one concealer, one blush or bronzer (your choice), two eye shadows, a full-sized lipstick, and a high-quality (natural hair) brush set in a travel case. There will even be a few extra surprises! Handouts will be included, with recipes & instructions so students can apply class theories to, not only recreate the demonstrated products, but fully customize these recipes to suit personal or professional tastes.
ABOUT
THE TEACHER:
Karrie Welch is a professional makeup artist from western Massachusetts, with over 11 years in the professional beauty industry. Her work has ranged from elaborate stage makeup, to modeling shoots, print photography, bridal, salon, and private client instruction. Karrie started her makeup career out of necessity as a performer, and a love of makeup artistry grew into a new career. Karrie was motivated to create a more natural line of cosmetics that would enhance, not only the appearance of the skin, but it’s overall health as well. With the creation of her line, Fortunate Face Minerals , Karrie has achieved a balance of both performance, and simplicity. The minerals had to meet exacting standards of working flawlessly for everything from photo shoots, stage performance, bridal, as well as personal everyday wear, all while adhering to the esthetic of being beneficial, rather than potentially harmful to the skin.
