This full-day intensive workshop is a combination of Angela's two prior classes: "Image Transfer Techniques" and "Inkjet Image Transfers" - perfect for the adventurous artist or craftsperson who would like to learn all they can about image transfers in one packed, fun-filled day.
This experimental workshop will explore nontoxic image transfer techniques using a
variety of household, craft and artist-grade supplies. You will learn how to
prepare toner photocopies and inkjet prints of your own photos, text or
drawings and incorporate them into creative, personalized artwork.
I will demonstrate and share tips on: selecting images; preparing and
painting surfaces (using Golden glazes); transferring and layering images;
sealing and varnishing. We will discuss how to enhance your artwork,
collages, altered books, art journals, and handmade books with your own
personal imagery.
In this class, we will explore the following creative techniques and
transfer images onto wood, paper, metal, canvas and fabric:
Lazertran waterslide decals: regular, silk and inkjet
tape and contact paper transfers
transfers using acrylic mediums or paints
image transfers with acrylic gel and inkjet transparencies
exciting & new emulsion transfers using a special inkjet coating called InkAid
surface decoration (transferring without soaking in water)
layering transfers over each other
You will take home several samples of image transfers on different surfaces.
You can use them to embellish or enhance any collage, handmade greeting
card, altered book or fabric quilt. You will also get a handout with
instructions to continue practicing these techniques at home as well as a helpful resource list.
WHAT
TO BRING:
I will supply prepared images, transfer mediums, laptop and inkjet printer. If you would like personalized transfers, you are welcome to bring: black and white or color photo copies (toner based) from a variety of photographs, artwork, text pages or found images. If you want to practice on different
surfaces, bring white tissue paper, Japanese and/or handmade art papers you already have, as well as fabric swatches, canvases, art journals, or altered book pages you might want to experiment on. Art tools will be shared, so if you have your own metal ruler, scissors, bone folder, X-acto knife with sharp blade and cutting mat, please bring them with you. Also, there will be a break for lunch, so please bring a brown bag lunch or lunch money.
