We’ll take soap casting, also known as “Melt and Pour” soap making, to an artisanal level. You’ll be amazed at what YOU can create by combining techniques, skills, planning and design. In this full-day hands-on class, you’ll learn the basics (or refresh your existing skills) - single and multi-pours in molds, embedding, adding color, scent and texture.
While those projects are cooling, you’ll get a primer on color theory and seven elements of design as you plan an advanced multi-step pictorial loaf. Then you’ll move beyond the mold as you learn to look at stones and gems in a way that allows you to recreate them in soap as hand-formed geodes and sculpted gems. You’ll also “deconstruct” and recreate citrus fruits using tube molds and a dipping technique.
Techniques
This Class Will Cover:
- Basic melt and pour skills (no pre-req required).
- Pictorial soap loaf planning and execution.
- Creation and carving of facsimile gem block soap.
- Hand formed geode soap construction
- Citrus fruit soap construction using tube molds
You’ll be amazed at what you can learn and create during this fun workshop. The color and design lessons will help stimulate your creativity and help you gain the skills to go from "Soap Hobbyist" to "Soap Artisan." You’ll take home packaged samples of the soaps we make in class, the class workbook and handouts.
Come See How Melt & Pour Soap Can Be
So Much More
Than Just Melting & Pouring!
ABOUT THE TEACHER:
Alicia Grosso lives in Southern California and is the owner of Annabella and Company Creativity Collective. She recently came out with a fully updated 2007 version of her comprehensive book, The Everything Soapmaking Book" and made a special appearance at our 4-year anniversary party, doing a book signing and melt & pour demonstration. She is making another special trip to The Nova Studio to further share her knowledge and passion about soap making. We are absolutely thrilled to have Alicia teaching 2 unique full-day sessions designed for students of The Nova Studio: Pushing the Envelope: Cold Process and Pushing the Envelope: Melt & Pour. If you take both sessions that are offered that weekend, you will get to see the result of all of the soaps in Day 1 (cold process) and the end of Day 2 (melt & pour). |
