In this mostly demo-style class, you'll discover the various possibilities offered by 3 different cosmetic recipes:  Balms, Gels & Serums.

Body balms are incredibly nourishing and regenerating to the skin and don't require chemical preservatives. Students will learn the best oils and ingredients to use in balms for their healing and beautifying properties. Balms can be very concentrated and are valued for their healing benefits. Students will also see how to incorporate (into their balms) handmade or purchased herbal tinctures, oil infusions and essential oils (take Alice's Herbal Extract Class if you'd like to learn how to make the extracts & infused oils yourself).

Gels offer various possibilities and textures in your range of cosmetic recipes. We will discuss the different jellifying substances and their various applications in aftershave gels, body gels and facial serums. Created with no emulsifying wax, their molecules are very fine and therefore very easily absorbed by the skin. Their soothing texture feels refreshing and light. Gels also have the advantage of being very well appreciated by men.

Serums are another very successful product in the cosmetic industry. Used at night, their purpose is to nourish the skin deeply with precious ingredients. We will make a facial serum to help regenerate and heal the skin.

Students will take home helpful handouts, a 1 ounce body balm, a 2 ounce body gel and a 1 ounce facial serum.

(Note: In this class we will be utilizing exquisite extracts previously made in Alice's Herbal Extracts Class).

ABOUT THE TEACHER:
Alice Duvernell is an artist & gilder who recently moved to the Bay Area after living in the south of France for the past 8 years. There she started researching problematic & sensitive skin types & developed an interest in the amazing virtues of essential oils & hydrosols. Her interest in culture & her studies in anthropology led her to travel in South America where she expanded her passion & awareness in native medicinal plants. During her last journey to Brazil, she set up a laboratory where she shared with the locals her techniques for making hydrosols & other cosmetics, using native plants. See our teacher page to view Alice's current classes.
